Earlier this year the iconic “Dark Hedges” near Armoy was subject to a battering during storm Gertrude and unfortunately some of the trees were uprooting. Not wanting to send the trees straight to the chipper it was decided they would be used to make a series of doors each based on an episode in Game of Thrones Season 6.
Luckily through a few of my friends in the extra’s world I was invited to go to the unveiling of the 10th door after a private screening of episode 10.
Having seen the episode the night before it didn’t hold any surprises for me but seeing the reactions of the others to the episode was interesting.
After the showing the door was indeed unveiled and it was pretty awesome. Unfortunately it was the door to the toilet and it was difficult to get to it with everyone taking photos by it but I was happy to wait 🙂
Elio and Linda from westeros.org were invited as special guests and they were happy to have a chat about the episode and sign my World of Ice and Fire book which they produced based on Georges work.
There are 10 of these doors situated throughout Northern Ireland most not far from filming locations. It is a drive from Tourism Ireland who are running a “Game of Thrones Territory” campaign. More information can be found here.
It was great to meet up with some of the guys I have worked on Game of Thrones here as we don’t see each other much when off set.
