Tough Mudder Ireland Sunday 12th July 2015

On Sunday we took part in Tough Mudder Ireland at Loughcrew Adventure Centre.

We tried to make it for the first start at 10am but missed it so proceeded to the warm up area with everyone bound for the 10:20am start.

After the warm up we headed for the start line which as always has a small fence obstacle just to get you in to the swing of it.  We got over it and took our Tough Mudder vows.

It was a real relief to get going as the anticipation can be a bit much sometimes.   The obstacles came up thick and fast but with the help of other mudders and us helping in return we made mince meat of them.

About 5-6 miles in the calf cramps started kicking in due to jumping in and out of cold water every other obstacle but we kept going.

After conquering Everest 2.0 we had only two obstacles left to do, Mud Mile 2.0 and Electroshock Therapy.

The new and improved Mud Mile was great fun and seemed to have extra thick mud.  Finally we got to Electroshock therapy and there appeared to be a queue forming in line with the gap which allowed mudders to cheekily slip under the wires which give out 10,000 volt shocks.  Judith decided to wait and use the channel and I opted to walk straight through.  (I have done a previous mudder so technically I am allowed to bypass Electroshock but I couldn’t as it’s part of the fun for me)

We had a great day and can’t wait to do it next year.  Of course we ran in memory of Jack and in aid of the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice – a charity which is so close to our hearts and it’s where our son Jack had great holidays and it’s also where he spent his final days.
