When I read the His Dark Materials trilogy I always thought that it would make a great movie and later found out that there was a plan to do this. With JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings already done and Steig Larsson’s Trilogy not to mention Game of Thrones being made in to movies and TV series it seemed like it was a logical step for this trilogy.
When the Golden Compass was made which was based on the first in the trilogy Northern Lights it was thought that this would be the start of something big but alas it was not the box office smash it was hoped to be. That was 2007.
Now it has surfaced that His Dark Materials will be a BBC One TV drama series and Philip Pullman as executive producer which I am a bit excited about.
Daniel Craig played Lord Asriel in the movie and although the story predominantly follows Lyra Belacqua, Lord Asriel was a character which I really connected with in the books so it will be interesting to see.
Both the Books and the Movies have had criticism from various religious organisations in particular the Catholic Church due to the connotations served up in the book in which the Magisterium was portrayed as a similar organisation.
